Here are what you will need to make Cajun shrimp:

Shrimp – I have used raw king sized shrimp for this recipe; however, you can use jumbo shrimp. I used frozen shrimp, which I ran under water before use. You can substitute for prawns.

Paprika – Hot, smoked, or regular paprika.

Cayenne pepper– Adjust this according to your spice tolerance.

Garlic granules/Powder

Onion granules/Powder

Oregano

Thyme

Oil – You can use olive, vegetable, or sunflower oil. I used extra virgin olive oil.

How To Make Cajun Shrimp In The Oven

Prepare the shrimp – Rinse the shrimp, pat them dry with paper towels, and place them in a medium-sized bowl, then set aside.

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).

Make the Seasoning- Prepare the Cajun seasoning by mixing the Paprika, Cayenne Pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, thyme, and salt in a separate small bowl.

Season Shrimp Pour the Cajun seasoning and olive oil into the shrimp bowl and mix them well.

Bake – Arrange the cajun seasoned shrimp on a baking tray. Leave space in between the shrimps and don’t overcrowd the baking tray.

Bake shrimp in the oven at 400F/200C for 10 minutes or until cooked (the shrimp will have a pink/orange-like color when cooked).

Bring out the shrimp and let it rest for 2 minutes before serving.

Rice – Yellow rice, Onion rice, Seasoned rice.

Pasta – Creamy pasta, tomato pasta.

Vegetables– Roasted vegetables, baked carrots, oven roasted asparagus.

How long to bake shrimp?

How long to bake shrimp at 400F is 10 minutes, while the time to bake it at 350F is 15 minutes. The hotter the oven, the quicker it cooks; however, I recommend not cooking it at a temperature over 400F.

Storage Information

Allow the shrimp to cool down (until completely cool), then put it in an airtight container and store it in the fridge for up to 3 days, or keep it in the freezer for up to 4 weeks.

Reheat- Baked shrimp can be reheated in the microwave or oven. To reheat it in the microwave, transfer it to a microwave-safe dish and microwave for 1 minute.

To reheat it in the oven- Transfer to a baking dish and bake at 160C for 5 minutes.

Tips For Cajun Baked Shrimp

  • You can double the seasoning and keep half to use at another time to save time on mixing the seasoning the next time you make this recipe.
  • Olive oil can be substituted for melted butter in this recipe.
  • You can squeeze some fresh lemon juice on the shrimp if you like.
  • Once cooked, remove the shrimp from the oven immediately because leaving it in the oven will continue to cook the shrimp.
  • Serve with any dipping of your choice or with side dishes.
